Description:
Portable phonograph; rechargeable battery pack; variable speech compression; fast forward index button; aluminum counter-balanced tone arm to avoid skipping, lever on top of tone arm retracts stylus automatically when the top of the arm is compressed; plays at three standard speeds: 8 1/3, 16 2/3, and 33 1/3 rpm; 9" turntable covered in black foam; gray plastic case with ribbed aluminum trim, rectangular with angled corners; speaker compartment cast into lid with black wire speaker grill on top; lid is removable; black plastic carrying handle flanked by aluminum latches; black rubber feet on bottom and back for horizontal or vertical resting position; controls on right: three pushbuttons for indexing, speed selection, and pause; four rotary dials for variable speed, variable speech, tone, and volume; five jacks for remote, input, headphones, output, and power adapter; separate black plastic AC-DC adapter stores inside case; serial number 1165 on nameplate inside lid; in marker in several places, "LOAN".

The Portable Plus was designed and entirely assembled at the American Printing House for the Blind under an agreement with the Variable Speed Corporation. APH catalog number 1-01000-00. This particular unit was loaned to customers while their players were being serviced in the APH Product Repair Department.
