The Bookport digital player was introduced by APH in 2003, with an original catalog price of $395. Owned and used by Dr. Terrie Terlau, Adult Living specialist in the APH Research Department. Purchased by her personally in 2003, as the first or second unit sold. According to Dr. Terlau, she had been using an APH Roadrunner as a book reader prior to her purchase of the Bookport. The Bookport was easier to use, easier to download books off the internet, easier to navigate within a book, handled more file types, used a removable storage medium, and held as many as 50-60 books at once. It also served as an Mp3 player and a no-frills braille notetaker. She replaced it around 2010 with a Braille Plus and a Bookport Plus, both of which had enhanced features and were able to download files wirelessly.
