Xerox introduced its Docucolor 40 high speed color copier in late 1996, the first such machine on the market . APH tested the Docucolor 40 in 1997 in its large type division. This book was produced for Don Keefe, head of the APH Development Department, as a tool to sell the idea of color printing of textbooks to potential funders. APH eventually purchased a Docucolor 40 to produce color book covers.
