Description:
Black-and-white photo is mounted on a white card trimmed with a gold-stamped line. It shows 12 students. "Macy, Vinton, Iowa" is stamped in gold lettering in the margin. A handwritten arrow points to the student at top left. On the reverse is handwritten: "Blind School Group, G. Walsh top left. Grace Walsh, Mom attended the School for the Blind in Iowa." A student named Grace Walsh is listed in the 1893 biennial report of the Iowa school. She was admitted at the age of 19 and had been blind for 10 years. The student at front center appears in another cabinet photograph in the museum collection. See accession 2004.74.1. The Iowa College for the Blind would later be called the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School.
