The AER O&M Division Bledsoe Archives : The Professionalization of Orientation & Mobility

The Bledsoe Archives documents the history and development of the Orientation & Mobility (O&M) profession and the history and activities of the AER Orientation & Mobility Division. It consists of two major record groups: the C. Warren Bledsoe Manuscript Collection and the O&M Division records. There is also a large collection of artifacts that includes mobility canes and O&M aids. The C. Warren Bledsoe Manuscript Collection contains documents collected by the famed O&M pioneer. It includes correspondence, research articles and materials (both published and unpublished; originals and/or copies or reprints) written by him and others in the field, and photographs. The collection documents the profession -- from travel techniques taught to blinded veterans to the establishment of the first university programs for O&M instructors. The O&M Division records document the history and activities of AER Orientation and Mobility Division (Division 9) and the history of the O&M profession. They include professional papers, correspondence, proceedings, legal documents, bylaws, minutes, financial records, newsletters, programs, brochures for sensory aids, membership lists, memorabilia, photographs, video cassettes, and audio tapes.
