Provenance:
The Cooper Manufacturing Company in Chicago took over the braillewriter and slate manufacturing lines of Samuel Seifreid after his death in 1912. For years APH referred orders for these items to Cooper. In 1924, APH purchased Cooper's slatemaking designs and equipment and began manufacturing them in Louisville.
The 1922 Cooper sales brochure advertised a 4x41 cell desk slate, but by 1924 it had been replaced by the 37 cell version. APH would not carry a 41 cell slate until 1981.
