Naomi Overby was a longtime proofreader in the APH Braille Pre-Production Department who retired in 1993. The Banks Pocket Braille Writer was invented by blinded WWI veteran, Dr. Alfred Banks of San Diego California, around 1928. In 1946, IBM agreed to support the production of a revised model for distribution at cost in both the U.S. and Great Britain by Lions Club International. It weighed about 1.5 pounds and used 1/2 inch wide tape.
