Rectangular aluminum slate; hinged on left; raised finger grip on left to ease opening; oval cutout in middle designed to omit the spool hubs on a cassette tape label (see Provenance notes below); fourteen braille cells on top and bottom lines; four cells on each side of window.

Item is a sample slate given to Fred Gissoni by a Howe Press employee in 1996 to test for use with blank cassette labels produced by various manufacturers. He found that the slate did not work with some cassette labels due to the shape of the lip around the island (opening) of the slate. Howe Press did produce the slate. Gissoni worked in Customer Service at APH, retiring in 2011.
