Howe introduced the E-Z Read concept in 1965. Howe introduced the Dymo Tape slots in the early 1970s. The EZ-Read feature flipped the location of the pins on a slate, allowing the slate to be opened and the braille read without removing the paper from the pins.
Item is part of a slate collection that belonged to David Ronecker (1918-2001). He was blind since birth, attended the Missouri School for the Blind, worked in Texas as a medical technician for the armed forces, and was an avid collector of slates. His nephew, Charles Zinser, sold the slate collection after Ronecker's death.
Dymo tape was introduced after 1958.
