Hinged nickel-plated brass pocket slate; 4 lines of 27 cells; four registration pins (up) in bottom frame fit into countersunk holes in top frame; windows on top frame have dimpled cut-outs to guide placement of the stylus, also slightly cupped on end to facilitate opening the frames; a raised dot divides every five cells, and a raised line runs the length of the top frame in the middle; recessed dots on bottom frame below window openings; stamped near hinge on top frame, "HOWE PRESS/PERKINS/MODEL 11"; piano hinge.

Provenance:
Howe Press had introduced an aluminum 4 x 27 pitted bed braille slate as early as 1917, and introduced the heavier nickel-plated brass Model 11 by 1926. A Dymo-tape feature was added to Howe Press slates after 1970.
