Brushed aluminum case, folded corners; black rubber feet; slanted front panel holds four standard 1/4" female headphone jacks with a black plastic and bright aluminum volume control knob above each jack; 72" gray insulated cord emerges from bottom of back leading to a black male 1/4" phone jack; weighs approximately 1 1/2 lbs., on front, APH logo and "HEADSET ADAPTER".

Provenance:
The American Printing House for the Blind designed the adaptor "to connect up to four pairs of headsets (earphones) simultaneously to one sound source, such as a tape recorder or a Talking Book reproducer." --APH product sheet. APH catalog no. 1-0094. The Multiple Headset Adapter was introduced in the middle of 1971 and first appeared in the catalog in 1972. Production of this unit ended in 1993. It was replaced in the 1994-95 catalog with the Listening Post Audio Splitter (cat# 1-00941-00) which was designed for the smaller 1/8" mini-plugs.
