Eva Brewer talks about her work at the American Printing House for the Blind (APH), where she runs clamshell (platen) presses and PEDs (plate embossing devices) as a machine operator in braille production. She first worked for APH in 1972, in the Housekeeping Department, and later in other departments, including the Machine Shop (where she worked on braille slates and erasers, pieces for the Beetz Notation Graph, signature guides, and book rings) and the Shipping Department. Some of the production processes are described. Asked about notable changes in processes over the years, she describes the differences in production setup for braille collation. She is also asked about how the introduction of labor unionization affected the workplace.
