Place:

Description:
A sepia-toned photo of a blind man wearing dark eyeglasses and dressed in a Salvation Army uniform with a badge over the left chest pocket. The man is standing next to a cloth-draped table and is reading, with his left hand, a tactile book that is resting on top of the table. Photo is mounted on a green card. "Dunlop, Portraits, Studio 7 Church St. Gloversville, N. Y." is printed in gold letters along the bottom edge. A strip of paper measuring approximately 2 3/4 x 1 1/4 is glued to the back of the card. The paper has a small diamond-shaped hole and appears to be a handmade hanger. Above this appears the following, handwritten in ink, "From My Comrade Staff Capt. John Connelly to Cadet Wood. (Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity and quicken thou me in thy ways). [Psalm 119:37] (Blind John)." Some of the green paper on the upper left corner has worn away. The man in this picture appears to be the same man on another cabinet card in the museum collection, accession 2001.28.
