Title:
Embossing plate for tactile map
Description:
Embossing plate for tactile map, grid street pattern with various buildings indicated by raised nail heads; plate originally cast from printer's metal, some machine tool marks evident in recessed areas; plate pinned to wood block; embossed lines and pigmentation on wood block beneath the plate suggest that the block once formed part of a tactile map or diagram of some sort and was reused.
Dimensions:
H-4.25 W-7 D-1.25 inches
Provenance:
City is unknown. Instead of an embossing plate, this might be a tactile map unto itself, as suggested by a high relieve steel pin in one corner that would be impossible to emboss correctly. Found in the AER Bledsoe Archives at the Maryland School for the Blind.
