Title:
DVD, "Vietnam Blind Rehab Project, 1967-1968," with separate audio recording
Admin/Bio History:
Rod Kossick, an orientation and mobility (O&M) specialist hired through contract from 1966 to 1968 by the World Rehabilitation Fund, New York, to establish blind rehabilitation and vocational services in South Vietnam for war-blinded Vietnamese, filmed portions of the pilot project based at the National Rehabilitation Institute (NRI) in Saigon. Some of the footage was used as a "thumbnail description" of the project for presentation, with Kossick providing live-voice narration. A separate audio tape of traditional Vietnamese music, performed by musicians who were mostly blinded trainees at the NRI center, served as the background soundtrack.
Scope & Content:
DVD contains two black-and-white videos, each a copy of selected footage from filming of the Vietnam blind rehabilitation project at the NRI center in Saigon, South Vietnam, showing the center and O&M instruction. Handwritten on front of DVD in blue marker: "Viet Nam Blind Rehab Project 1967-1968." The original footage, which was blurry, was filmed by Rod Kossick using a Super 8 movie camera. The audio tape provided a background soundtrack to accompany presentation of the shorter of the two film segments.
