Provenance:
Created in 1990 by incoming AER Division 9 chair Bruce Blasch for his predecessor, Butch Hill, and awarded at the Division's annual meeting. Everett "Butch" Hill, Jr. (1943-1994) served as the director of O&M at the Minnesota School for the Blind, and later the Missouri School for the Blind. In 1970 he joined the faculty at Florida State University while there collaborated with Purvis Ponder on the first methodological textbook on Orientation and Mobility Techniques: A Guide for the Practitioner published by the American Foundation for the Blind. Later he taught at Western Michigan University and Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. He was famous at AER annual meetings for his musical performances.
