The EZ-Read feature, introduced in 1965, flipped the location of the pins on a slate, allowing the slate to be opened and the braille read without removing the paper from the pins. It is still in the Perkins Products catalog.

He was blind since birth, attended the Missouri School for the Blind, worked in Texas as a medical technician for the armed forces, and was an avid collector of slates. He was the uncle of Charles Zinser, who acquired the slate collection after Ronecker's death.
