Provenance:
Howe Press manufactures the Model 140 as both a desk slate and a pocket slate. Found as part of materials collected by APH to study education products produced by other companies. According to former APH machinist Jim Hill (later head of security) the primary difference between the Howe model and the APH version was the design of the clamp pins. The Howe model featured stamped pins. APH preferred to drill a hole and insert a pin which could then be easily replaced if broken.
