Scope & Content:
Dr. Virginia Keeney, a Louisville psychiatrist, became the first female member of the Board of Trustees of the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) in 1981. She talks about some of her experiences as a board member, including: committees on which she has served; accomplishments of and challenges faced by the board; the opening of the company's museum; the 1989 visit of publisher Katharine Graham during APH's celebration of the 30th anniversary of Newsweek Talking Magazine; and the 2008 APH exhibit in Washington, D.C., in celebration of the company's 150th anniversary.
