Scope & Content:
David McGee joined the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) in 1979, starting out in the Tape Duplication Department as an electronics technician, where he was responsible for mechanical repairs of equipment that included master-tape machines, bin-loop duplicators, cassette loaders, and tape degaussers. Later, he modified equipment, some of which was used in a record-plating process that he describes. He then moved to Technical Research, developing/improving production equipment, creating tooling, and writing specifications. Projects mentioned include a cassette-labeling hopper; a vinyl printing process; and a talking protractor. He also talks about serving as an APH union steward.
