Black-and-white photo is mounted on a white card with gilt border. Photo shows an elderly man sitting on a wooden chair. He has short hair and mutton chops and appears to be visually impaired or blind. In the background is a studio backdrop of a staircase. Handwritten in ink on reverse: "Ed. Utting, Born 28th Sept. 1793. This Likeness taken 28th Sept. 1867. Years - 74." Cartes de visite were popular during the Civil War era. Bottom right corner of carte is worn; stains at top right corner and at bottom center into edge of photo; two stains and slight foxing on reverse.
