Sepia-toned photo is mounted on a cream-colored card trimmed with a single line of light purple. Photo shows three seated musicians, a sister and two brothers, known as the Hostetler Family from Fayette County, PA, holding the instruments that they played. At left is Catherine holding an accordion. She is wearing eyeglasses and a full-length dress with long cuffed sleeves and a lace collar with a bow. Her hair is braided and worn up. Seated in the middle is Bartholomew with a cello. He has a trimmed beard and mustache and is wearing dark eyeglasses and a suit with vest. On the right is John with a violin. He is dressed in a suit with vest and has a full beard and no mustache. "Hadden, Uniontown PA." is printed along the front bottom edge. "Hadden's New Gallery. Cor. Main & Morgantown Sts. Uniontown, PA." is printed at center on the reverse. Another brother, Samuel, who is not pictured, also performed with them. Cartes de visite were popular during the Civil War era.
